OFFICE OF THE DEAN
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
171 MOULTRIE STREET
CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA 29409-6190
Dear Web Site Visitor,
The faculty, staff, students, our Advisory Board, and our many stakeholders welcome you to the School of Business Administration web site. We are gratified that you are interested in us, and we hope that you will join our leadership and business learning community. As an AACSB - accredited business school, we are very proud to live up to the highest standards of this most prestigious international accrediting body.
The School is new; that is, we are being formed from The Citadel's Department of Business Administration that has been in existence for over 50 years. The new School is composed of 22 full-time faculty, three full-time staff, and nearly 20 part-time faculty, all of whom are committed to our mission, which is to "educate and develop leaders of principle to serve a global community." Our outstanding faculty represent all the business and organizational disciplines of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, management, marketing, and statistics.
In addition, we have a growing number of students. Presently over 650 students are enrolled from the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and 280 are enrolled in our MBA Program. We also pleased with our new School of Business Administration Advisory Board composed of leaders from all walks of life; Board members will be meeting with you in classes, and they are committed to helping us develop the School.
Our covenant calls for all of us - faculty, staff, Board, and students - to live up to the following covenant, which we feel very strongly about:
Our teaching, professional, and personal activities are based on our commitment to these values:
Our new mission, covenant, and vision were finalized on April 22, 2002 and were based on extensive involvement by not only the faculty and staff, but also our students.
Our vision is also printed on this website. To realize that vision, we have already initiated a range of new initiatives. They include developing a Center for Leadership Development that includes representatives from across The Citadel and a student-mentoring program to help cadets and MBA students prepare themselves for a lifetime of service. In addition, we are initiating trips abroad for students and more involvement of practitioners who will teach courses and visit individual classes. We are also reinstating a Family Enterprise Forum to help small, family, and minority-owned businesses thrive in an ever more turbulent, technology-driven, global environment.
New partnerships are being formed with businesses and organizations inside and outside The Citadel. We expect these partnerships to improve our educational programs and provide us opportunities to serve the nation.
I will close by including our aspirations, essentially our dreams for what the School will evolve into as we continue developing it.
By achieving [our] goals, the School will consistently produce leaders of exceptional integrity dedicated to developing others and creating high-performance organizations that prosper in challenging environments. Stakeholders will see the School as an inspirational, mission-driven and fun organization that is known for its commitment to the highest standards of integrity, service to others, and preoccupation with continuously improving its teaching and internal processes.
The School will also be acknowledged internationally for its efforts to serve, develop, and support organizations that develop employees and improve their processes. Its Center for Leadership Development will be lauded for its innovative, creative programs. It will have diversified its revenue sources, created state-of-the-art facilities for education and development on and off The Citadel's main campus, instituted new assessment programs, and provided the [South Carolina] Lowcountry with new, full-time educational opportunities.
These are big dreams that we think worthy of The Citadel, an outstanding educational institution committed to developing leaders for the last 160 years. We hope you will join us as we seek to realize these aspirations.
