Project 1:  Descriptive Statistics

Purpose: To use Excel as a statistical tool to visualize data and obtain various statistics on a data set; obtain and   print a listing of the data; obtain and print summary statistics of the data; interpret the results.

 

Tasks:

 

1.         Enter the percentage of computer owners into the first column of your spreadsheet.  [Click here for the data]

2.         Use the Data Analysis option on the Tools menu to perform the following procedures:

            [If you do not find the Data Analysis option on the Tool menu, create it by using the Add-Ins and add the Analysis Tool Pak]

a.      Descriptive statistics (print the output)

b.      Histogram (print the plot; it’s best to create a separate chart sheet)

 

3.         Now enter the following hypothetical sales data on a new spreadsheet (these data are also on the Excel Sheet used earlier.
