Class Policies

  • All grades are final. No exceptions are ever made to this policy.

  • No extra credit is given to make up for missed opportunities or unsuccessful work on scheduled assignments.

  • Stay seated during the class period. Do not go in and out of the classroom while a lecture is in progress.

  • All papers should be turned in electronically (to hutchissonj@Citadel.edu) as a Microsoft Word attachment. Name the file "yourlastname"

  • Assignments not turned in or taken earn a zero.

  • In order to pass a course, all work must be completed.

  • Do not miss a scheduled exam. Missed exams can only be made up in cases of emergencies or debilitating illness (i.e., confined to the hospital or infirmary). Makeup exams are special exams given on the last day of class and prior permission is required.

  • Late paper penalty: 10 points for each class day it is late. Papers late by 2 weeks are not accepted and earn a zero. If a paper is due at the end of the term, it cannot be turned in any later than the time of the scheduled final exam. If it is not turned in by that time, it earns a zero.

  • Final exams must be taken at the designated time. A final exam cannot be made up or be rescheduled. Conflicts with travel arrangements don't constitute a reason for missing an exam.

  • Once a class or an exam begins, please remain in the room for its duration.

  • Attendance is required. Absences, whether excused or unexcused, in excess of 20% of the meetings of the course will result in a grade of “F” in the course. According to the college catalog, "when class attendance is used to adjust or determine a cadet’s
grade, the official Class Absences System of the College will provide the official
    attendance record."

  • Statement on plagiarism:  Using someone else's ideas or phrasing and representing those ideas or phrasing as our own, either on purpose or through carelessness, constitutes plagiarism. Plagiarism results in an automatic "F" for the course and submission of work to college judicial authorities.

  • Using the Writing and Learning Center: All students are allowed, and encouraged, to use the resources of the Writing and Learning Center in preparing written work for a course.
