Students do not have a clue about how to properly study and prepare for
different subject areas. It is the teachers' responsibilities to instruct
students about how to study and prepare for their subject areas. Study is
developmental and will not change unless it is not working. I like to
tell students that there is a better way to study, a way that they can study l.e.s.s. and get great grades. L.e.s.s.
means Learn effective study strategies. If the students learn effective
study strategies, they will be able to spend less time studying and make better
grades. Teachers have to introduce students to the effective study
strategies required in their subject areas.
The purpose of the study questionnaire is two-fold: 1) to make students
aware of environmental factors that they can control to increase comprehension
and study effectiveness, 2) to make the teacher aware of study habits of their
students.
This assignment requires you to develop a study questionnaire that looks at the
way students currently study and then asks them to look at the environmental
factors and different study strategies available. The questionnaire gives
students the opportunity to look at environmental factors that they have
control of which influence their study and concentration. The
questionnaire also makes students look at different study strategies and decide
if any of those strategies may be the most effective one to use.
1. Browse through the Website resources listed below
2. Look in the collections booklet at
the example of a study questionnaire developed by Betty Archembault
3.
There are 2 aspects of
study that are assessed in the questionnaire.
The first is environmental. The
questions in this section help the students identify what parts of the
environment have an influence on their study and concentration abilities. The second set of questions deal with the
actual study skills and techniques necessary to be academically successful.
4.
Review the internet
sites dealing with Study questionnaires.
5.
Create your own Study
questionnaire that consists of questions relating to environmental factors and
actual study techniques.

Conclusion:
The
above resources should have given you some ideas for questions to include on
your study questionnaire. Use what you
have learned to create a study questionnaire that will help students become
more aware of the environmental factors that they have control over which
impact their study effectiveness and that will help you to see what types of
study techniques are used by the students.
There is no minimum or maximum number of questions required. Make the questionnaire very user
friendly. Make sure that you include a
set of directions and a place for their names.
