CASTLE
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
VISION: Excellence
in Education
PURPOSE:The
purpose of the Citadel Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching, Learning, and
Evaluation (CASTLE) is to provide a forum for faculty to collaborate and participate
in scholary activities that improve teaching skills and student learning.
MISSION:
The mission of CASTLE is to strengthen student potential by promoting excellence
in teaching and learning. CASTLE supports collaboration of faculty and administration
in the pursuit of exemplar teaching and learning methods that are congruent
with The Citadel's core values and strategic goals.
To this end, we will:
- Provide a forum for teachers
to discuss ways to engage, sustain, and measure student learning.
- Validate efforts to improve
classroom teaching, learning, and evaluation.
- Support applicable research
projects relating to student learning and improved classroom performance.
- Sponser formal and informal
programs that support the scholarship of teaching and learning, and
those that support outcome measures.
- Encourage communication and
transfer of ideas and scholarly information through regular meetings,
electronic discussion groups, participation in relevant conferences, and
skills workshops.
- Coordinate resources that
improve teaching and learning collaborations, presentations, publications,
and other projects between departments on The Citadel campus and among related
institutions.
- Recommend the purchase of
specific books and other materials by the Daniel Library that relate
to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Encourage presentations and
publications that are representative of the mission and vision of CASTLE.
- Establish and maintain involvement
with institutions that support achievement of CASTLE goals and objectives.
- Provide leadership and support
for the annual Charleston Connections conference, and participation
in other educational conferences.
