What is CASTLE?
- CASTLE is a community of faculty
scholars devoted to the study of learning within the disciplines.
- 20% of The Citadel faculty participate
in bi-weekly meetings
- A large percentage of Academic Departments participate
in CASTLE activities

Guiding Principles
How does CASTLE work?
- Interested faculty meet twice
a month to discuss the methodology of classroom research and the progress
of ongoing projects.
- A variety of disciplines are represented
in the group: Biology, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Education,
English, Health, Exercise and Sport Science, Math and Computer Science, Modern
Languages, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Business administration and Special Services.
What has CASTLE accomplished?
- 14 individual/group classroom research projects were implemented in 2001
- 13 conference presentations
about CASTLE and/or classroom research projects
- 3 on campus workshops
about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
- 5 reports filed
with CASTLE
What's Next?
- Continue our classroom research
projects
- Discuss our research data and
assessment
- Present and publish our research
findings
- Submit proposals to the research
committee to facilitate this research
- Submit applications to the faculty
development committee to support attendence at education meetings
- Report the activities of this
group to The Citadel campus and to the Carnegie Academy via reports every
six months
